My friend and I were watching a program about inventions of the last fifty years. There were some amazing things and some of them were inspired by Star Trek, who knew? We started brainstorming some inventions we'd like to see come along.

My friend said that he would like to see flying cars. But hey, what good is that going to do with the way the gas prices are going up? Besides someone already has invented a flying-car-sort-of contraption that is only affordable to the super rich.

I was thinking about back when I used to have that nasty habit of
smoking. At the time I used to wish that they’d have cell phones with
lighters built into them. But I don’t smoke anymore, so I'd rather the
inventors focus on something else, like a fridge that automatically
orders food and beer and stuff from the supermarket when the stuff is
running low. But my friend told me that such a system already exists,
apparently in Korea. Wow!

Then again, sometimes my friend pulls a fast one on me. Maybe he's making things up. That's why I think the best invention would be (drum roll please), a device that allows you to know what other people are thinking.

For privacy purposes you would be allowed to know only the thoughts that concern you. For instance, if someone said that I looked good and I had the said device implanted and the person was thinking to herself that I look like a complete idiot, I would know what she was thinking and be able to accidentally spill my hot coffee on her.

People will be a lot more honest with each other.
There wouldn't be any use for words like lies, dishonesty, cheating, etc.
And people would probably get along much better. There would probably
be a lesser divorce rate and people would marry the right partner. That
being said, the government may have a tough time after the device hits
the market…
